About New Orleans Edu Funding and where the numbers come from

A guide to LA GATOR and private school funding in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and Washington parishes, assembled from public state and federal records rather than school marketing.

Sources

State approval. The Louisiana Department of Education, 2025-2026 BESE-Approved Nonpublic Schools Academic Classification List & Brumfield v. Dodd Approvals (May 19, 2025) is the master list: grade span, academic classification, Brumfield v. Dodd date, pre-K and K-12 enrollment for every approved nonpublic school in Louisiana. We took the 124 schools in the eight parishes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Two schools that BESE lists as separate junior and senior sites (Jesuit, Rummel) are shown as one school each.

Scholarship participation. The Louisiana Department of Education, Tuition Donation Credit Program 2024-2025 Participating Nonpublic Schools tells us which schools took STO scholarships. The Louisiana Department of Education, 2025 Louisiana Scholarship Program Scholarship Cohort Indices gives results where enough former voucher students were tested.

Federal records. The U.S. Department of Education, NCES Private School Survey (2023-24 public-use file; 2021-22 where a school did not respond in 2023-24) supplies addresses, teacher counts, religious affiliation, association memberships and single-sex status for 113 schools. 10 schools in the directory are in the federal survey but not on the state list; they're shown so families know LA GATOR can't pay their tuition. Addresses for 14 approved schools missing from the federal file come from the schools' own sites and the Archdiocese of New Orleans directory.

Program rules. Amounts, priority groups, the window and spending rules are from the Louisiana Department of Education's LA GATOR pages and the Odyssey help center for 2026-27; funding figures are from reporting on the 2026 legislative session. Rules change; the LA GATOR call center (225-422-1538) is the final word.

Who we are

New Orleans Edu Funding is a Boss Leads project, independent of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, the Louisiana Department of Education, BESE and Odyssey. Advisors help families assemble a funding plan and introduce them to schools that take their funding. Partner relationships are labeled wherever they appear.
